Well, what did you expect a tablet device to look like? The LG Optimus Pad was spotted recently, where it supposedly comes with superior performance in a thinner and lighter form factor when compared to its rivals – no prizes for guessing whether the Apple iPad is lumped into that category or not. Since it runs on the Android platform, it would be nice to know whether Froyo (Android 2.2) is included right out of the box, or will consumers have to wait for an update in due time? We will keep a keen eye out for the Optimus Pad when IFA kicks off later this week in full force.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab has been spotted in video and photo leaks to the death, but here’s something slightly different – we’re talking about a CDMA model which can be spotted simply because of a sticker located on the side of the unit. Expected to roll out with the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, the CDMA Galaxy Tab has been touted to feature strong speakers and a slow-working GPS according to those who have seen it in the flesh. As for Flash, it purportedly runs like a “dream”, and might just be able to kick off a serious rivalry with the Apple iPad.

The Hanvon Touchpad B10 has undergone an unboxing process in Germany, where it will retail for €771.24 a pop. So far initial impressions of it have been pretty good, where a user touted that it was one of the best tablets he has ever used – without making a reference on whether he had any experience with the Apple iPad or not. According to the same user, it takes just 39 seconds to boot up, and is flexible enough to run a slew of applications without being bogged down. There is no word on whether the Hanvon Touchpad B10 will arrive Stateside, but we don’t suppose you can always go for a grey import.

It is rather strange that Sharp’s President Mikio Katayama has touted their upcoming e-reader to be a rival for the Apple iPad – considering the iPad isn’t even a dedicated e-reader in the first place, but rather more of a tablet. This is one interesting boast that we hope will not end up as just hot air since the consumers will win in the end. According to Sharp, this new product is being prepared to hit the market before the year is over and it remains to be seen whether it will make it in time before the frenzied holiday shopping season begins. We do know that their e-book reader will utilize a color LCD display while using a new file format for e-books known as XMDF. XMDF is a new development where it will utilize video and music alongside basic text for added oomph. There are even whispers going around that 3D capability on this e-book reader might be a possibility – nothing strange about that considering Sharp is behind the Nintendo 3DS display.
