Nothing that I like more than robots, and we have reported on a lot of interesting ones.
This one is under development at Carnegie Mellon’s Biorobotics Lab, and it bears a resemblance to the Omnitread. That was a snake-like robot with treads on it like a train, designed to slip into small places. [...]

KDDI has released yet another cell phone which will cater to those who are fashion conscious in Japan – we’re talking about the Light Pool handset that features a minimalist design. Japanese designer called Tsuboi Hironao is the brains behind this, where it will ship with 22 LEDs formed in a triangular shape which will illuminate in order to display different patterns for a total of 100 choices to choose from. As with any other self-respecting camera in cell phones, the Light Pool will come with an 8.08-megapixel CMOS sensor with autofocus, a 3.2″ LCD display at VGA resolution and a microSDHC memory card slot. Of course, other standard bells and whistles include Bluetooth connectivity, GPS navigation, a 1Seg TV Tuner and LISMO music and video on demand services that are exclusive only in Japan.

Instead of hiding your nerdy love for math, show it off on your wrist for all the world to see. This watch makes math look exactly like it always should. White chalky scratches on a green chalkboard. It can remind you of the good old days of sitting in the classroom with that classic chalk [...]

The brains behind the 3D Lens-In-A-Cap have stumbled (and hopes to implement) a very unique idea – delivering stereoscopic 3D to the masses using a standard Canon-branded digital camera. The aperture is able to be opened up to a maximum value of F11, which translates to an extremely frugal light intake, as long as the minimum focusing range stands at a distant 1.5 meters away from the sensor. Everyone wants a slice of the 3D pie these days, and good thing the pie’s size is growing by the day instead of remaining static.

The Prosthesis idea by designers Lukas Pressler and Nico Strobl brings the prosthetic limb to another level, since it is actually an identical limb which maneuvers with little effort thanks to myoelectric sensors that make it easier to use. A smattering of tools such as a camera, flashlight, screwdriver, phone, bottle opener and an USB flash drive is also integrated within the Prosthesis, where it will control those mentioned tools with but a range of gestures. A display is included in the forearm itself for easy fine tuning of movement without missing a beat. It will take a fair bit of time before such concepts become reality, but hope springs eternal as long as the brains of the world maintain an altruistic view on things.
